How to receive network notification when a program is about to begin?
The web guide can now send a network alert on your LAN whenever one of your favorites programs is about to begin, with the help of LM LAN Messaging.
I - Setting Up
You must install LM LAN Messaging on all computers that must receive network alerts and on the computer that host the Web guide (your Beyond TV computer).
Configure LM LAN Messaging on each computer :
- choose a User Name for each computer (you can have the same user online on more than one PC, but it's easier to assign a user name that describe your PC, like "Beyond TV PC", "Office PC").
- choose the notification method you want to use : the "XP Style" balloon, or the transparent notification window (you can also choose a skin for this window).
For your Beyond TV PC it is advised to choose the username "Television" and to use the notification window with the Beyond TV Skin.
When LM LAN Messaging is installed and working on all your PC, go to the Web Guide and choose the "Options" menu, and configure the following values:

-
Notification Sender : this is the user name used for sending network alerts. This user name can be a totally new user name not used on any LM LAN Messaging client (ex: TV Guide). Note : you can with the Beyond TV Skin for LM LAN Messaging use a PNG image that has the name of this user name, it will be displayed in the notification window (some PNGs are available in the skin directory of LM LAN Messaging : C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\LM Gestion\LM LAN Messaging\Skins)
-
Send a notification xx min before : choose the notification delay, which is the time the alert will fire before your program will start.
-
Send notifications to : you can choose the user name that should receive the notification, or specify that all users will receive the notification.
II - Usage
If you want to receive a notification for your program you can either set up a notification the same way you setup a "Once" recording, or use the advanced recording and alert filters.
To add a notification manually, like you would add a once recording, either view the "program details" from the program grid or search for programs, the click on the notification icon to set up the alert.

Or you can use the filters as you would for advanced recordings and check the "Send LAN notification" check box.

And you should see a transparent window like this one when your program is about to begin ("Beyond TV" skin used) :

Note : you can only see the video with transparency if you use the "3D Accelerated" rendering method of BTV. With "Overlay" you will not see the video through the window.
