"Unable to open XMLTV File" error message
Check that :
- You can open your XMLTV file in Internet Explorer without errors and warnings.
- You have the DTD file in the same directory of your XMLTV file.
Import seems to be successfull but I can't see any program in Beyond TV EPG
Check that you assigned your XMLTV imported lineup to one of your video source (in Web Admin, http://localhost:8129 go to "Settings" / "Audio and Video Inputs" and edit the settings of the video source and search for "Channel Lineup").
Check that you correctly specified the right time zone in the Importer (the Importer doesn't rely on the timezone used in the XMLTV file)
Can I open a XMLTV file located on another machine via HTTP protocol?
Yes, you can simply type the URL of the file in the importer (http://....) instead of a file path (C:\....)
The description of the programs with the same title are the same
This is expected behavior when the importer looks for program title and episode title for identifying unique programs, try to use another identity detection method in the Importer (like based on description or air date).
Some of my shows are detected as "repeats" even though I know they are not
This is expected behavior. Beyond TV 3.5 needs that all shows specify their first airing date. If the importer can't find for sure that the show is a new one, it will choose a first airing date by default (or use the one specified in the XMLTV file). This behavior is needed for the "record all new episode" to act differently from "record all episodes".
How to automate Beyond TV XMLTV Importer?
By using the new import wizard in version 3.0 or later, you can set up a scheduled task to import automatically your XMLTV file into Beyond TV
Or
After using at least once the Importer you can set up a scheduled task to automate the import process. To do so simply create a scheduled task in Windows Control Pannel
- Click on "Start" -> "Control Pannel"
- Choose "Perfomance and Maintenance" category
- Click on "Scheduled tasks"
- Click on "Add Scheduled Task"
- In the wizard click on "Next >"
- Click on "Browse" and select our Importer : Program Files\LM Gestion\Beyond TV XMLTV Importer\BTVXMLTVImport.exe and click on "Open"
- Choose the import frequency (weekly is most appropriate)
- Choose the days and time you wish to automate the Import task (it is best to automate the import 8 hours after the task that retreive the XMLTV file)
- If asked specify the usernama and password to run the task.
- Once the task is created open it's properties (right click on the task, then choose "Properties")
- In the "Run" field add /silent to the end of the command line (insert a space before /silent), for instance : "C:\Program Files\LM Gestion\Beyond TV XMLTV Importer\BTVXMLTVImport.exe" /silent
- then click on "Ok" (you may have to specify again the username and password to run the task).
- For testing : right click on the task and choose "Run", you should see the importer running in the task bar and exiting after import.
Note : automatically import XMLTV file is only enabled for our donators
Can I import more than one XMLTV file with Beyond TV XMLTV Importer
Yes starting from version 3.1 you can import more than one XMLTV file but you will have to use the classical interface to add another XMLTV file, you can't do it in the wizard.
Open the classical interface and you'll see an "XMLTV source" drop down list, click on the "+" button next to this list to add a new source, give it a name and you'll see that the drop down list now reflect this new source.
Now you can change for this source :
- The XMLTV file path
- The time zone settings
- The identity detection method to use
You can swith sources by just using the drop down list in order to change those parameters for each source.
Note : all other import parameters are source independant. The import process and channels editor behaves the same way with one XMLTV source or more than one source.
How to enable and configure hidden options?
Download this xml file, it contains the advanced settings for the Importer, just put it in the configuration folder of the Importer (C:\Documents And Settings\All Users\Application Data\LM Gestion\Beyond TV XMLTV Importer for Windows XP or C:\ProgramData\LM Gestion\Beyond TV XMLTV Importer for Windows Vista) and edit the various settings inside (a description is provided for each setting in the file).
