LM Remote KeyMap : React upon computer events

Download Free Version

LM Remote KeyMap can execute actions in response to computer events like when you shutdown your PC, when your PC is waking up from sleep or when you start an application (this is a donator edition feature).

For example if you want to turn off your TV when your computer is goind to stand by, you can do this with LM Remote KeyMap (if you also have an IR Blaster) and even turn on the TV when you wake your computer.

Adding / Editing Events

To customize your PC events or add a new one, select "Customize computer events" from the main LM Remote KeyMap screen. You will then get the computer events screen as in the figure below:

In this screen you have the events list on the left and the actions attached to each events on the right. Select an event to edit its actions list or add a new event by clicking on the "Add" button.

The following events are available :

  • LM RKM Starting : this event occurs when you start LM Remote KeyMap (specifically the taskbar notification icon : called the Desktop Listener). This can happen when you log in to Windows or when you start the LM Remote KeyMap GUI or when you start manually the LM Remote KeyMap Desktop Listener.
  • LM RKM Stopping : this event occurs when you quit the LM Remote KeyMap Desktop Listener (taskbar notification icon). This can happen when you select "Exit LM Remote KeyMap" from the taskbar notification icon or when you are logging off Windows or shutting down / restarting your computer.
  • LM RKM Command Line : this event occurs when you use the LM Remote KeyMap Command Line Utility. To add this event click on the "Add" button and choose "LM Remote KeyMap Command Line Event", then type the event name you'll use with the LM Remote KeyMap Command Line Utility.
  • PC Resume Sleeping : this events occurs when your PC return to stand by from a wake up state that was provoked by a scheduled task or some other events but was never fully resumed (meaning you have not used the PC since he wake up). When this event occurs it replace the "PC Standing By" event.
  • PC Resuming Auto : this event occurs when your PC is resuming from stand by automatically to handle an event (scheduling task for instance). This event also happens when you are resuming your PC to interact with it.
  • PC Shutting down : this event occurs when you are shutting down / restarting your PC
  • PC Standing By : this event occurs when your PC is going into stand by. If your computer is going to stand by but was never fully resumed before going to stand by (meaning the PC was on because of a scheduled task and not because you waked him up manually), the "PC Resume Sleeping" is fired instead.
  • PC Waking Up : this event occurs when your are resuming your PC from stand by. This event doesn't happen when your PC is resuming itself to handle an event
  • Session Connect : this event occurs when you are connecting back to your desktop session. This can happen when you unlock your session, or when you are returning from user switching / remote desktop session
  • Session Disconnect : this event occurs when you are disconnecting from your desktop session but your session is still running. This can happen when you are locking your desktop session, do a user switch, connecting through remote desktop
  • Session Log Off : this event occurs when you are logging off your desktop session
  • Application Starting : this event occurs when the application you choose to monitor is started
  • Application Stopping : this event occurs when the application you choose to monitor is ended

You can use any of the available LM Remote KeyMap actions within this events (some restrictions may apply though see below)

Useful Tips

If you use the events like LM RKM Stopping / PC Shutting Down / Session Log Off / PC Standing By, you can run into some issues especially when you are shutting down your computer (this is also true when you log off).

Not all actions will work as you may expect when you use them with this events mainly because they will not have the time to run correctly because of the shutdown or stand by engaged.

This why you should not use actions that will need more than five seconds to execute (it is still possible to use them but results will be unpredictables) and also use actions that will block execution of LM Remote KeyMap when running; these actions are all the actions with a "wait for... before executing other actions" option like:

  • Launch Application
  • Display OSD
  • Play Sound

Also if you use "Launch Application" for a shutdown or log off event you have to use its "Launch the application from the LM RKM Blaster Service" opion, otherwise Windows will not allow your application to launch.
