LM Remote KeyMap : Installing the Firefly on Windows Vista or Window 7 (32 bits or 64 bits)
|Download Free Version|
To install the Firefly remote on Windows Vista or Windows 7 (32 bits or 64 bits) without installing Beyond Media Basic (the Beyond Media Basic installer has many issues on Windows Vista / Windows 7), you'll need to install the X10 drivers and a third party software to customize the remote.
You have two choices :
- The Snapstream Firefly only drivers : this is the driver only package offered by Snapstream this is a quite old package but it should work (mostly on 32 bits OS). This driver has the advantage to not assign default actions to the remote button
- The X10 drivers : this is the generic drivers for X10 remote. It works with the Firefly remote. The disavandtage is that this driver do assign default actions to the remote button (mainly dedicated to Media Center; the button mappings are quite odd but there is a workaround)
Plug your remote into your PC, let Windows find a driver for it. Windows should find a generic driver for it thanks to Windows Update.
Once Windows has found the default driver, unplug the remote and install the Snapstream Firefly only drivers. The installer will fail but just click on "Ok" to continue, this will normally install the X10 COM Server needed to handle remote events.
Download and install LM Remote KeyMap to customize the remote.
Plug your remote into your PC, and install the X10 drivers.
In Windows Control Panel you should have now a new Control Panel entry "Wireless Remote Settings" under "Hardware and Sound".
Open this new Control Panel applet and to disable the Firefly remote default button mapping select a remote channel that is not the one currently used by your remote.
To do this, press the "Volume Up" button on the Firefly remote, the remote channel should be displayed in the Control Pannel applet at the bottom. Select the "Use Wireless Remote Settings with the remote set to this channel" and pick a channel that is not the one used by your remote.
